The Maryland State House is open to the public from 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday and 10:00am to 4:00pm on weekends. Capital City Colonials offers walking tours for small groups limited to 12 in size. They offer a variety of public, specialty, and custom tours. Points of interest include the State House, City Dock, Colonial Mansions, and the Naval Academy. The Naval Academy is viewed from outside the gates, since the grounds are closed to visitors in vehicles. One-hour tours depart from the Visitor Center daily, April-November; most weekends, December-March. The Historic Annapolis Walk: This audio tape tour, narrated by Walter Cronkite, covers 18 sites including the State House, St. John’s College, the William Paca House and Garden, and several historic homes on Cornhill, East, and Pinkney Streets. Maps and tape rentals are available at the Historic Annapolis Foundation Museum Store at 77 Main Street. The African-American Heritage Audio Walking Tour highlights Annapolis’ African-American community from pre-colonial to modern times. The tape tells the stories of slaves, including Kunta Kinte, and free men, including: laborers, artisans, politicians, business people, and professionals. Historic trees of Annapolis: The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has developed a nice tour guide to the historic trees of Annapolis. The tour takes you to many of Annapolis's prime attractions, including the Maryland State House, the William Pica House, the Naval Academy, St. John's College, Tawes Garden, and more. The United States Naval Academy Guided Public Tours: Tours depart daily from the Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center, Gate 1, King George and Randall streets. Check the visitor center website for the latest tour schedule and security regulations. To really experience Annapolis, you should try to get out on the Chesapeake Bay. The Schooner Woodwind offers 2 hours sails on a 74 foot classic wooden sailing yacht. The Woodwind sails up to four times daily from the Annapolis Marriott. The Schooner Liberte sails out of Annapolis in the Spring and Fall. The Liberte offers Sunday brunch cruises every week and is also available for charters. Watermark Cruises offers a variety of 40 and 90 minute narrated cruises which leave from the City Dock daily. Or, if you prefer self-propelled transportation, Amphibious Horizons offers kayaking tours of downtown Annapolis.
If you would like to see the city via bicycle, Net Pedallers at 42 Randall Street, will rent you a bike or electric scooter by the by the hour or by the month.
