Chesapeake Beach Attractions:

Chesapeake Beach, in Calvert County Maryland, was founded by the Washington and Chesapeake Bay Railway Company in 1894 as a resort destination for visitors from the Washington D.C. area.   The town thrived as a destination resort during the early 1900's. The train station where early visitors arrived in Chesapeake Beach remains as a museum which recounts the history of the resort town.

The Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum, located in a train station remaining from that time, tells the story of the Chesapeake Bay Railway Company and Amusement Park through a collection of historical photographs and artifacts.  The railway museum is open daily May through September from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and weekends in April and October from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  Admission is free.

Today, you can still enjoy the beach at Bay Front Park (also known as Brownies Beach or Randle Cliff).  The park has a public beach and is open during daylight hours.  This is a narrow beach with adjacent cliffs.  Visitors may find fossils on the beach here.  Bay Front Park is located 1/4 to 1/2 mile from town on Route 261.  The Breezy Point Beach and Campground, located adjacent to the Breezy Point Marina, is operated by the Calvert County Dept. of Parks and Recreation and offers swimming and camping at 80 waterfront or water view campsites.  Located on Breezy Point Road, a few miles south of town.
 

In 1995, a water park was added to the attractions at Chesapeake Beach.  With eight water slides, a children's activity pool, and a water volleyball area, the park has something for everyone. 

Chesapeake Beach is also a popular departure point for Chesapeake Bay fishermen.  Both Breezy Point Marina and the Rod N' Reel Marina have active charter fishing boat fleets.  Visit our charter fishing directory for information on charter boats in the Chesapeake Beach area.

The Chesapeake Bay Beach Resort and Spa was constructed on the Chesapeake Beach waterfront in 2004, adding to the town's popularity as a get away destination. 

The Beach Trolley Association provides transportation between Chesapeake Beach and nearby North Beach, Herrington Harbor, and Deale.  The trolley runs on weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  It arrives at each stop about once every two hours.  Visit the trolley website for a route map, schedule and other information. 

You'll find additional charter fishing operations in Deale, as well as some additional restaurants.  Nearby Harrington Harbor, which can be accessed by the trolley, is home to two large full service marinas.

  This 72 room waterfront resort hotel is located next door to Rod n Reel Marina and Restaurant. Very convenient to the charter fishing boat fleet. All rooms have a water view.  Suites available with balcony, fireplace, whirlpool, and mini bar. Constructed in 2004.
