Visiting North East

North East, Maryland is located on the North East River, about 50 miles from Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Located at the head of the Chesapeake Bay, the town is about 15 miles from Havre de Grace on Maryland’s Western Shore and about 12 miles from Chesapeake City on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Things to Do:

Main Street in downtown North East offers a selection of antique shops, stores, and restaurants.  St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church, located on Main Street, dates back to the 1700’s and the adjacent cemetery is one of the oldest in Maryland.

The Cecil County, Maryland tourism website is a good source of information on attractions, shopping and dining in downtown North East and nearby areas.

Community Park

The North East Community Park is a nice place to enjoy a quite walk and scenic views. This 10 acre waterfront park offers walking paths, picnic tables, playgrounds, and restrooms. 

Upper Bay Museum

The Upper Bay Museum, located in the North East Community Park on the banks of the North East River, is dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Upper Bay area and houses a large collection of hunting, boating, and fishing memorabilia. Open Friday – Sunday, noon to 4:00 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Museum admission is free. Visit the museum website to confirm hours of operation.

Elk Neck State Park

Elk Neck State Park is located 10 miles south of North East.  Elk Neck State Park has 2,200 acres of lush waterfront forests, rustic cabins and campsites for tents, trailers, and motor homes.  The park has 10 miles of hiking trails, a sandy  beach, and miniature golf.

Turkey Point Lighthouse, one of the Chesapeake Bay’s oldest lighthouses in continuous operation, is also located within the park and is accessible from an easy 2 mile trail.  Visit the Elk Neck State Park website for more information

Kayaking and SUPs

Explore the North East River with a kayak or SUP (stand up paddleboard) rental from Bay Venture Outfitters. They have on-site rentals at their waterfront location on W. Church Point Road, or you can make arrangements to have kayaks or SUPs delivered to another location.
