This is an annual calendar of events taking place on and around the Chesapeake Bay that are water related or related to the Bay's cultural, ecological, or maritime culture.  The calendar includes a wide variety of events including festivals, boat races, boat shows, fishing tournaments, exhibitions, seminars and workshops.  

 

 

Chesapeake Bay Events

October

October 4 & 5 --  Annual Blessing of the Fleet.  St. Clements Island Museum.  Saturday 11:00am to dark.  Sunday 10:00am to 4:00pm.  Entertainment, boat rides, food, games, and fireworks.  More InformationSt. Mary's County, MD.

Oct 4.  Day Cruise on the Liberty Ship John W. Brown.  Voyage into history on the John W. Brown.  Featuring music of the 40's by a live big band.  Reenactors demonstrate equipments and vehicles.  Airshow with flybys of WWII aircraft, continental breakfast and all-you-can-eat lunch buffet.  Tour the ship including engine room, museums, cargo holds, crew's quarters, and bridge.  Cruise profits maintain this Liberty Ship Memorial.  Departs from Baltimore, MDMore Information.

October 10 -12  -- United States Sailboat Show. The Annapolis Sailboat Show is the oldest and largest in-water boat show in the country. Annapolis City Dock and Harbor.  More information.

October 4 -- Mid Atlantic Small Craft Festival. One of the nation's premier small craft events. Hundreds of amateur and professional builders and enthusiasts bring their skiffs, kayaks, and canoes. Take part in demonstrations and workshops, or simply chat with the owners and watch these one of a kind vessels race.  Ches. Bay Maritime MuseumSt. Michaels, MD.

October 11 -12 -- Patuxent River Appreciation Days.  Celebrating Maryland's largest intrastate river; free boat rides, music, activities, and more.  Calvert Marine Museum.  More infoSolomons Island, MD.

October 15 - 18 -- Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race.  Annual sailing race from Baltimore to Portsmouth to benefit the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Elizabeth River Project. Post-race party includes an awards ceremony and oyster roast, to be held at portside at the North Ferry Landing, Noon to 11 p.mMore InformationPortsmouth, VA.

October 11 -- U.S.S. Constellation Cup and Bull Roast.  Classic sailboat regatta followed by a post race bull roast from 5:00 to 8:00pm.  More Information.

October 17 - 19 -- United States Powerboat Show.  The Annapolis Powerboat Show is the oldest and largest in-water boat show in the United States. Annapolis City Dock and Harbor. More information.

October 18 & 19 -- St. Mary's County Oyster Festival.  St. Mary's County Fairgrounds.  Leonardtown.  Saturday 10:00am to 6:00pm.  Sunday 11:00am to 6:00pm.  Includes the National Oyster Cook-Off and the U.S. National Oyster Shucking Championship.  More InformationSt. Mary's County, MD.

October 17 - 18 -- Chestertown Wildlife Exhibition and Sale.  Over 60 carvers, artists and craftsmen are on display throughout the historic district.  More informationChestertown.

October 17 - 19 -- Poquoson Seafood Festival.  Annual seafood celebration includes watermen's exhibits, workboat races, live entertainment, seafood, fireworks, and more.  Fri. 5:00pm to 10:00pm, Sat. 10:00am to 10:00pm, Sun. 12:30pm - 6:30pm.  More InformationPoquoson, VA.

October  18 -- Tilghman Island Day.  Come enjoy the fun with the "locals" and watch watermen and boat docking contests. Fill yourself with wonderful seafood, listen to live music, and check out the antique shops, auction and craft tables. 10 AM - 6 PM. Kronsberg Park.  More Information.

October 31 - November 2  -- Schooner Sultana Downrigging.  Traditional sailing vessels from around the Chesapeake will visit Chestertown to help the schooner Sultana celebrate the close of its season under sail.  More Information.

November 7 - 8  -- Urbanna Oyster Festival.  Official Oyster Festival of the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Visit the Oyster Festival website for more information.  Urbanna, VA.

Nov. 14 - 16 -- Annual Waterfowl Festival.  Wildlife paintings, sculpture, carvings, decoys, photography and fine crafts in 12 exhibit sites throughout colonial town. Also retriever, fly-fishing and stunt dog demonstrations, Wine Pavilion and Sportsman’s Pavilion.  Goose and Duck Calling Contests, master classes, decoy auction.  More Information.  Easton, MD.
